What Is an IFSC Code?

The IFSC Code, short for Indian Financial System Code, is an 11-character alphanumeric code used to identify specific bank branches in India that participate in online money transfer systems like NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS.

An IFSC code looks something like this: SBIN0001234

  • 5th Character (always 0) – Reserved for future use
  • Last 6 Characters (e.g., 001234) – Represent the branch code
